ukmountainbiker.com is a brand new dynamic online resource for mountainbiking in the UK.
The new site is being developed to be a real one-stop resource exclusively for mountainbikers where users will be able to download routes that can be saved as a PDF – to be printed and taken on the ride and based on official OS 1:50,000 mapping – or have a file downloaded for use with portable satellite navigation devices. The routes will be colour-coded according to IMBA trail grading recommendations – green, blue, red and black.
One of the main points of difference between ukmountainbiker’s new site and others is that the routes will be UK wide and linked to a comprehensive database containing the details of bike shops, refreshments stops and YHA accommodation that will be incorporated into the individual details of each ride. This will give riders a very detailed set of instructions without the need for separate pre-ride research – especially if the ride is in an unfamiliar region.
As well as routes the site will have member-generated content, which will be actively encouraged, to include reviews, an area where members can comment on routes and submit their own, as well as reviews generated by ukmountainbiker on bike shops, bikes and kit.
The cost of membership is £15 per year (£12 for those that join before the official launch of the site), which includes 24 routes that can be downloaded in PDF and GPX formats. For those that want to buy additional routes and for users that don’t wish to join for the year the cost of each route is £3.50.
