Carrera Vengeance 2011 Review
With a reasonable asking price of £275 you cant beat it. The aluminium 6061 grade frame is very solid and rigid and will handle serious knocks and stressful forces whilst remaining light and nimble on the trail.
The Shimano Hyperglide & Hyperdrive, drive terrain allows you to put the power down quickly and efficiently whilst allowing power to be transferred through the gears smoothly thanks to the Hyperglide 8 speed cassette. The brakes are Shimano and hydraulic with very responsiveness and extremely good at applying stopping force efficiently & quickly. The White double walled wheels blended nicely with the black frame.
The saddle...rubbish. It was too narrow and you would slip side to side on it. The saddle had flexing sides which were good for comfort but they were a bit too flexible. I replaced the saddle with a previously purchased Lookin Athletic gel saddle for a reasonable £35 which may sound a bit steep for a saddle but will suffice well in comfort. The bike as a whole package is very well priced and equipped and should perform well for many years to come.
My own one is currently needing washed as it is coated in dry brown mud from a recent ride on a muddy mountain bike trail. Unfortunately The limited edition part does come with an obvious snag. Halfords no longer produce the model that i have reviewed with the full Shimano drive terrain, Shimano hydraulic brakes and RockShox forks. However they still do the normal version of the Vengeance but it comes with basic components such as Suntour forks, linear pull disc brakes and a Sram drive terrain. I personally like the matte silver finish paint.
